Our Locality
The Old Vicarage is situated at the heart of the beautiful and extremely peaceful village of Hornby. We are lucky to be surrounded by a wealth of natural attractions, particularly the nearby River Wenning which has some lovely riverside walks.
The Hornby village institute is at the heart of the village and offers a weekly drop in coffee morning and other social groups. Attractive St Margaret’s Church, with its unusual octagonal spire is situated right next door to us and offers regular services. As does the rather more modest but still lovely St Mary’s Catholic Church, situated a short walk away on Main Street.
Luckily Hornby still has a village post office, which boasts its own small café and there is a village store and local butcher within walking distance.
If residents and their families are looking to explore further afield the vibrant City of Lancaster is just a short drive away along Caton Road and boasts a number of excellent restaurants and cafes, along with a busy High Street. Known for its cultural life, Lancaster has an imposing castle, two independent theatres, several museums and galleries and regular musical events hosted by the library, town hall and Priory.
Further North is the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, which is the perfect spot for a slice of cake and a pot of tea, along with a stroll around its many independent shops.
This is just a taste of what the area has to offer with both Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national park just a short drive away.
